Managing the ADVM volume in ASM DISKGROUP

ASM Dynamic Volume Manager (ADVM) volume in a disk group. For using them compatibility attributes COMPATIBLE.ASM and COMPATIBLE.ADVM set to 11.2.
Oracle ASM Dynamic Volume Manager provides volume management services and a standard disk device driver interface to clients.
You can store additional files except from database files on the ASM Disks such as binary files, trace files, log files etc.

Check the compatibility of Diskgroup

Handle from SQLPLUS command connected with ASM instance

Add the volume of size 5 GB

ALTER DISKGROUP data ADD VOLUME volume1 SIZE 5G;

Resize operation on Volume

ALTER DISKGROUP data RESIZE VOLUME volume1 SIZE 15G;

Disable the volume

ALTER DISKGROUP data DISABLE VOLUME volume1;

Enable the volume from diskgroup

ALTER DISKGROUP data ENABLE VOLUME volume1;

Disable all the volume from diskgroup

SQL> ALTER DISKGROUP ALL DISABLE VOLUME ALL;

Drop the volume from diskgroup

ALTER DISKGROUP data DROP VOLUME volume1;

Use of ASMCMD for Managing the ADVM Volume

-- Create volume in DATA diskgroup
ASMCMD [+] > volcreate -G data -s 10G --width 1M --column 8 volume1

-- Check the list of volume
ASMCMD [+] > volinfo -G data volume1

-- List all volume in specific disk -a option
ASMCMD [+] > volinfo -G data -a

-- Delete the Volume
ASMCMD [+] > voldelete -G diskgroup volume

-- Disable the volume
ASMCMD [+] > voldisable -G diskgroup volume

-- Enable the volume
ASMCMD [+] > volenable -G diskgroup volume

--Resize operation on volume
ASMCMD [+] > volresize -G data -s 20G volume1
