Bootstrap process failure Oracle

Error ORA-00704 Bootstrap process failure occurred during startup of oracle database and data guard environment from old oracle home.

ORA-01092: ORACLE instance terminated. Disconnection forced
ORA-00704: bootstrap process failure
ORA-39700: database must be opened with UPGRADE option

Solution:

Please check the oracle home and path variable on which you are going to start the current database. After upgrade database start from old home generate error during startup command


SQL> startup
ORACLE instance started.

Total System Global Area 9854357504 bytes
Fixed Size 2229904 bytes
Variable Size 7549749616 bytes
Database Buffers 2281701376 bytes
Redo Buffers 20676608 bytes
Database mounted.
ORA-01092: ORACLE instance terminated. Disconnection forced
ORA-00704: bootstrap process failure
ORA-39700: database must be opened with UPGRADE option

On linux


export ORACLE_HOME=/u01/app/oracle/11.2.0/dbhome_1
export PATH=$PATH:$ORACLE_HOME/bin

On windows:


set oracle_home=E:\oracle\11.2.0\dbhome_1
set path=%ORACLE_HOME%\bin;%PATH%

If you are still getting error on windows platform

1. Go to services.msc

2. Check the database running from which oracle home by right click -> properties

3. If its running from old oracle home. Please create service from new oracle home by oradim command as follows:

Suppose i am taking the example of upgrade from 11g to 12c version.

Delete:

set oracle_home=E:\oracle\11.2.0\dbhome_1
set path=%ORACLE_HOME%\bin;%PATH%

oradim -delete -SID ORCL

Create:
set oracle_home=E:\oracle\12.1.0\dbhome_1
set path=%ORACLE_HOME%\bin;%PATH%

oradim -new -SID ORCL
